When you look at lifestyle websites, one thing becomes apparent pretty quickly. There are lots of under-35 folks, and tons of over 50 couples. But those in between aren’t nearly as prevalent. And I know why.
It’s really hard to find time when balancing kids and work and after school activities and grocery shopping and mowing the lawn and laundry and the hundred other things life demands on the daily.
Like, really hard.
We’ve been chatting with one couple for a few weeks now. And every week they ask if we can get together. But between back to school, and back to school germs, and sheer exhaustion, we haven’t been able to make it work.
Another couple wants to zoom, which, yes, please, let’s do that. But their kids are awake until 9. And ours gets home at 9 and doesn’t go to bed until 10:30. And me? I can’t form a complete sentence after 10 p.m.
Plus, we live about 100,000 miles away from anything. It takes over an hour to get to any lifestyle-oriented clubs, so it’s not a thing we can just pick up and do. It takes planning.
It’s a challenge. That’s what I’m saying.
But this weekend, we are Going Out. To a house party, as a matter of fact. It’s far enough away that we’ve got to stay the night, so we’ve arranged a sleepover for the kid, boarding for the dog, and have hit up ye old Amazon for some appropriate outfits.
We’re going to party like, well, like we’re middle-aged, wanna be swingers who have gotten a hall pass for the night. I have high hopes (and high anxiety). We might not get to do this for another two months, so hopefully it’ll be super fun.
I promise to report back either way. I am positive that it will, if nothing else, be a hell of an experience.
Wish us luck.
